BEAUTY TIPS FOR THE FACE

Hello Friends,

About to share some basic tips for the face.  Read below and follow instructions.

Wash Your Face
  • It may sound obvious, but washing is a crucial component of healthy skin. Wash your face when you wake up so you don't trap oil or bacteria under your makeup, and then wash cosmetics off your face before you go to bed. Special cleansers containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's) can help remove dead skin cells and are antibacterial. Don't wash your face too often (more than two or three times daily), or your skin may start to overproduce its natural oils to compensate for them being removed throughout the day.

    Use the Right Products

  • Using the right products can make a big different in skin health. For most people, it's best to use a gentle cleanser, an antioxidant and a sunscreen in the morning. At night, use a cleanser which contains AHA's and Retinols. Exfoliants can also help slough off dead skin cells, but if your skin is sensitive or acne-prone, you may want to use a very mild exfoliant and rub it very gently into the skin with warm water.

    Do Not Smoke
Smoking is bad for both your health and the appearance of your skin. It contributes to premature aging, caused by toxins which are absorbed into the bloodstream and taken to the skin's structure. Smoking is also known to thin the skin and reduce collagen, which causes the skin to become wrinkled and the face to look gaunt.

Avoid Sun Damage

  • The sun and tanning beds cause UV ray skin damage which cannot necessarily be reversed. When you spend time outside (no matter what the weather is like), wear sunglasses, a skin shield such as a hat, and use sunscreen. Use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or greater, and make sure the active ingredient label list includes titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or anything in the avobenzone family. Also use a sunscreen made especially for the face. It should be labeled "noncomedogenic," which means that it is designed avoid clogging pores.

    Stay Hydrated
  • Drinking plenty of water every day helps flush toxins out of your body through your excretory system. If toxins are not flushed out, they can build up within the body and may escape through the pores, contributing to acne and can create horri black circles under your eyes. The Institute of Medicine suggests that men consume about 13 cups of total beverages each day and women consume about nine cups of total beverages per day. You are likely dehydrated if your urine is a dark yellow color.

Reduce Stress

  • Stress has a negative effect on the health of your entire body. If you get plenty of sleep each night (seven or eight hours each night for adults), practice deep breathing or meditative exercises, do about 30 minutes each day of moderate exercise, and avoid junk foods, your face will thank you for it.

    • If you follow these steps and are still not happy with the appearance of your skin, speak to a dermatologist. A professional can assist you by making recommendations based on your lifestyle and your skin's specific composition.

OTHER USEFUL TIPS FOR THE FACE

  • Eat lots of Veggies and fruits.
  • Try using  as less make up as possible, because the more you dab on, the more it will give you and "overdone" look which you would never want.
  • While selecting your make up, go for shades that compliment your skin tone and also your personality.
  • Avoid using gloss during the daytime. Go for matte lipsticks. In the evening however, you can for for gloss as it looks good.
  • Heavy makeup should be avoided during daytime. You can make use o mascara or an eye pencil and that would go perfectly with your lipstick, giving you a simple but decent look.

  • Till you get our next post, please keep your faces spotless, radiant and glowing.

KEEPING YOUR MAKE UP/MAKE UP KIT CLEAN

Keeping our makeup kits clean is probably the most important part of our job.  Every makeup artists worst nightmare would be to hear, “You gave this to me!”   So we do our best to make sure everything in our kit is kept sanitized.

Use a tray for your makeup kit with compartments for storing different types of makeup items. Have one section designated for liquid foundation bottles and another for compacts, blushes, and eye shadows. Keep your eyebrow pencils, eyeliners, and mascaras together and your lipsticks in a separate compartment of your makeup tray. Have a separate area for brushes and keep your nail polishes separated from makeup.

I am gonna give you ten steps to keep your makeup and equipment clean, so that you can do your best to avoid unnecessary breakouts, infections, and even lessen the changes of getting styes.

  1.   Never dip your fingers in your moisturizer, eye cream, or foundation.   If they come in a tube then you can just put a little on your finger and apply it to your face.  What if the product is in a pot?  Using a clean spatula will keep your products from getting contaminated.   This will also ensure that your foundation has a longer life, because when you dip your fingers in the pot you are spreading bacteria, which cause your makeup to go bad much quicker than it normally would.
  2. Sharpen your eye pencils.  Many people wait till their eyes pencil is completely dull before they sharpen it.  I am telling you to do it more often.  I know that this will cause you to go through eye pencils a little more quickly, but it beats getting pink eye and having to through the whole thing out anyway.
  3. Replace your products regularly  I have heard people who have used to same tube of mascara for years.   They said “Well I barely use it.”  Your mascara, once opened only lasts between 3-6 months depending on how often you use it.   Smell your products if they don’t smell like they did when you bought them, then it is time to throw it out.
  4. Do not share your makeup with anyone.  I can’t believe how many times I have noticed friends sharing lip gloss, eyeliner, mascara and even the same sponge to apply powder.  Bacteria causing infections can be present for days before any signs appear, so just be safe and don’t share.

5.  Soak your equipment in alcohol.   Equipment such as tweezers and nail clippers should be soaked in 70% alcohol before and after every use.   Very often people cut themselves with these tweezers or nail clippers, even though they are tiny cuts they are still prone to infection.
6.  Keep your makeup in a cool place.  Don’t keep your makeup kit close to a window directly under the sunlight.  The heat can cause bacteria to grow and lessen the life of your makeup.
7.  Replace your sponges daily.  I can’t stress this point enough!  Sponges are cheap and can be bought at any makeup counter.  Using the same sponge over and over again will cause you to breakout.  If you are trying to be green, then use things such as makeup brushes and powder puffs instead of sponges.
   8.  Clean the rim around your lip gloss.  I don’t know if you have ever noticed when you keep your lip gloss in your purse, no matter how tight you close it, you still get that film around the lid.   I really can’t tell you how to prevent that, but I can tell you how to clean it.  A baby wipe and a dab of 70% alcohol should keep it clean and sanitary.
   9.  Throw out your products after an infection.  I would strongly avoid wearing any makeup during eye infections or core sores, but you should still toss out any product you have used on the infected area even a week before the symptoms appeared.
  10.  Clean your makeup brushes regularly!  Just because you are the only one using them doesn’t mean they are not dirty.  Bacteriamakeupbrushesbrushsets
grows everywhere, so clean your brushes at least every week.  Brushes that are used in wet products such as Foundation, concealer and lipstick should be washed everyday.  There are three ways to clean your brushes, a) brush cleaner, b) soak them in 70% alcohol or c) shampoo them and lay them out the dry. I hope this helps you ladies.

BONUS TIP : Close each container tightly after each use, and place it back in the proper compartment. Avoid letting it sit out until later, as this can keep you from maintaining your makeup kit effectively.

HOW TO TIE THE "GELE"- THE BACK TO FRONT METHOD.

BY POPULAR DEMAND

WHAT IS A "GELE"?
"Gele" is a Yoruba {Nigeria, West Africa} word for a female Head wraps usually worn at occasions such as weddings.
...the inseparable fashion accessory of the African woman..

The "Back to Front" Style:
  1.  Fold the material depending on its width to make sure if covers the entire hair {how much you fold this material depends on its width}
  2. Stand in front of a mirror or a friendly guide
  3. Hold the material with the folded part away from your face.
  4.  Place the material over your hair/head.
  5. Adjust the material so its middle is at the base of your neck. In doing so you will have two ends of material. Holding your head up, look straight ahead, grab the right end of the material midway to the end with your right hand and hold on to while grabbing the left end of the material with your left hand.
  6.  Hold the ends close together with your thumbs, allowing the rest of your fingers to be free.
  7. Keep holding the material with your thumbs, but use the two fingers next to your thumbs to switch the right end of the material to your left hand and the left end to your right hand. {I always find that I bend my head down when doing this or you can just take any position best for you}.
  8. Tighten the gele by pulling the ends, your right hand holding the formerly left end of the material will be up above your right ear.
  9. Let go of the left side of the material but keep still hold the right.
  10.  I usually hold my head tilted a bit for this neck step. Take the right end around your head with your right hand until it gets to the left ear.
  11.  With your left hand, move the left end away from right side you are working with.
  12. Tie the right end and the left end together at their base. Tie the ends so that they are comfortable on your head-not too loose and not too tight. You should now have a Head-wrap that covers your head with two pieces hanging down-one longer than the other. You could just leave it like that, or you could experiment with twisting, tucking one end at a time or tying both pieces together until you end up with a "finished product" that you like you and is comfortable.
